Going to start posting here again as part of the thesis process. Most likely will be cross posting at my blog too.

This was more of a class blog, if you want to keep up with what I’m currently doing, follow me at: blog.nickdesigns.net

To finish off the semester, we each designed a mock-up for an iPad app. For content, we were open to use anything we’ve posted onto our class blogs.
I used my observation posts of the different topics covered in the course (color, composition, etc.) as was coming up with a diagram to demonstrate those topics. The grid I chose is a five column one. For copy, I used text from Ellen Luton’s the New Design Basics.Using a grid was a major part of the project, and utilizing in different ways through the course of the app.
I chose the idea of a puzzle, with the idea that each of the topics are like different pieces that come together to create a whole.
Topics are grouped in pairs that you can scroll across. From the title page, you can access Lupton’s website for her book, along with this blog. The contents page shows the full puzzle and as you rollover the pieces the name of the concept that they link to appears. The text concepts at the bottom also act as a secondary navigation. You can jump forward and back on each page and link back to the table of contents. Clicking the images on the pages will also link you to the blog post that goes with them.
I have a PDF version here, which has less functionality, and the more fully functional SWF one here.

Mehmet Ali Uysal, a professor of art at Middle East Technical University created this giant clothespin sculpture. It was built for the Festival of the Five Seasons in Chaudfontaine Park, which appears to be in a town on the outskirts of Liège, Belgium.
